There are people who look just like me. Thousands and thousands who die for the freedom to define their own lives for themselves.
THANK YOU.
While on the surface this gif looks like some applaudable, it has been taken out of context.
In this episode of “The Newsroom”, Will McAvoy is taking this aide to presidential candidate Rick Santorum to task (actually, bullying would be a better word) over his decision to side with a man who thinks he as a gay man is unfit to be a teacher, unfit to walk this planet. The man stands up to the bullying, saying that he cannot be reduced to the color of his skin or his sexual orientation and that those alone should not determine who is allowed to support for president.
However, he also says that he supports Santorum because of Santorum’s stance on abortion, that the rights of the unborn matter more to him than anything else.
That is, in fact, one thing. He is defining himself as ONE THING. Being pro-life compels him to vote and support and work to elect a man who thinks he as a black, gay man is unfit to get married, to have children, to educate other people’s children. So, no, he is not defined by McAvoy; he is defined by a single issue and allowing that single issue to define everything else about his life.
